GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volusia County’s Charter Review Commission held its first meeting on Sept 3 at Daytona Beach International Airport and began its review to update the county charter. The commission will host listening sessions at local venues beginning Sept 9—gathering public input ahead of its report to the county council in summer 2026. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
- ➤ At a Sept. 4 meeting, Volusia County Council voted 7-0 to appeal to Gov. DeSantis on property appraiser Larry Bartlett’s $19.4 million spending plan that gives free health care to 121 workers, awards $2,000 bonuses, sets aside funds for building renovations in Port Orange, and includes wage increases. Bartlett said his state-approved budget will save $250,000 a year by combining offices—he noted that the county must still pay the full plan until any changes are made. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
