CRIME NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered in Volusia County Friday to honor fallen Edgewater officer David Jewell who was fatally shot at a gas station in Ormond-by-the-Sea – family members and fellow officers held a candlelight vigil and placed flowers on his patrol car.  News 6

  • Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University was named one of the nation’s Great Colleges to Work For—earning elite Honor Roll status after a survey of 199 institutions released on Sept 19. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a bobcat was seen twice near the Ponce Inlet Fire Department on S. Peninsula Drive. They advised residents to keep a safe distance and bring pets indoors—ensuring everyone can stay safe.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Mike Boylan, a self-taught weatherman from Oldsmar, has gained millions of fans on his website, Mike's Weather Page, by posting spaghetti maps and hurricane updates on social media. He works about 17 hours a day to provide reliable forecasts and began his site in 2004 – earning respect with his Tropical Meteorology Award in 2021.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • A Florida homeowner shot and killed a Black bear that entered their DeLand home on Friday morning, as the FWC reported no one was hurt. The FWC said residents should secure food sources—such as garbage and pet food—as bears search for fat to survive the winter.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Today in Daytona Beach, residents enjoy warm and dry conditions with daytime highs in the lower 90s as they wrap up the summer season. Tropical Storm Gabrielle is predicted to strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane this weekend and likely a Category 2 by Monday—raising concerns for coastal areas.  WESH
