- ➤ ICI Homes and city officials are negotiating a plan to repair dangerous, wet sidewalks in the Mosaic neighborhood off LPGA Boulevard—residents report that moss and mold from poor drainage have caused several falls. - ➤ Skip Patsos—founder of Skip’s Western Outfitters—was injured in an accident on Saturday when a truck backing out of a driveway collided with a minivan outside his flagship store in Osteen and he underwent emergency surgeries on both legs while now remaining in hospital with further procedures planned for full recovery. - ➤ Florida’s minimum wage will increase from $13 to $14 an hour today—part of a series of yearly raises approved under Amendment 2 that will give 40-hour workers an extra $2,080 per year. WESH

- ➤ Tropical Storm Imelda brought rough seas, heavy rain and winds up to 40 mph in Volusia and Brevard counties yesterday—forecasters said it strengthened near the Bahamas and will reach hurricane strength today as it turns east-northeast. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volusia County will host in-person storm damage assistance events on October 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at libraries in Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Deltona, Daytona Beach and at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center in DeLand—helping homeowners apply for funds to repair or replace homes damaged by Hurricanes Ian and Milton. Hometown News
- ➤ Yesterday, Orange County, Windermere, Deltona, and Edgewater filed a lawsuit against Florida officials over SB180—a law that restricts local control by freezing changes to zoning and development plans made after hurricanes. They claim the law violates home rule and may cost taxpayers money. News 6
- ➤ Twenty-three cities and two counties filed a lawsuit in Leon County on September 29 to block SB 180 — a new state law signed in June that stops local governments from setting tougher building rules until at least October 2027.
