Good morning, Daytona Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 11th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Central Florida veteran said he was denied an Uber ride to the airport on October 10 because the driver claimed his service dog needed a muzzle and that pets were not allowed. Uber said the action violates federal law and company policy.  FOX 35 Orlando

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Zach Zacharias—a senior curator at the Museum of Arts & Sciences—is demonstrating an interactive dinosaur activity at the new Expedition: Dinosaur exhibit in Daytona.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • The Daytona Museum of Arts and Sciences on Nova Road will close its main building at the end of March to begin a campus transformation—groundbreaking is set for fall and reopening is planned for fall 2028. A $150 million donation from the Browns will fund the new high-tech building and collections will be moved temporarily to local venues until the museum reopens.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rains and king tides caused flooding on the Space Coast yesterday, with Edgewater residents using makeshift barriers—tree stumps, parked cars and sandbags—to block rising water from their yards and streets. The heavy rain left roads impassable and increased frustration among local homeowners.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Flooding is a major concern in central Florida today as over 5 inches of rain have led to coastal flooding, rough surf and flash flood warnings in Volusia and Brevard; hazardous conditions persist at the beaches. A cold front will move through later this weekend—bringing cooler temperatures and less rain.  WESH
  • On Friday, heavy rain from a cold front brought multiple rounds of storms to Daytona Beach’s coastal areas and raised flooding concerns as officials issued a flood watch for nearby counties — a warning that additional rain overnight could worsen the situation. Local authorities had noted rough surf and warned residents to take precautions before the weather cleared.  WESH
