  • Nine Embry-Riddle faculty earned the 2025 Research and Innovation Awards on Oct 20 for achievements in patent filings, student mentoring, and industry partnerships.   • NASA experts said the T CrB star system over Florida may produce a nova explosion as early as November 10—this rare event will boost its brightness to match the North Star before fading, and researchers note other dates like June 25 and Feb. 8 are possible. The nova occurs roughly every 80 years, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance for skywatchers.  News 6

  • The National Hurricane Center is monitoring invest 98L—a tropical system with storm-force winds that moved near the Caribbean islands yesterday—with models showing it may either fade over Central America or turn north to bring heavy rain to parts of the Caribbean. Fronts have blocked its path toward Florida, and forecasters say our area should remain safe.  WESH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida has a new rule that revokes medical marijuana cards for patients convicted of illegal drug possession — over 160 patients risk losing their medicine. The rule, signed by Gov. DeSantis in July, lets patients reapply after completing sentence terms — a change that advocates call punitive.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
