- ➤ Volusia County will hold free food distribution events on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 using $250K from a state grant to support food pantry supplies — the first event is at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 at Calvary Christian Church Dream Center in New Smyrna Beach and the second is from noon to 3 p.m. at Hope Place in Daytona Beach, where anyone with valid county ID can receive a box of perishable and nonperishable items. - ➤ A new study by U.S. News & World Report shows that Wildwood in Central Florida is growing faster than any city, with a 19.53% increase in residents driven by retirees and local amenities—Florida leads the top 25 with eight cities including Daytona Beach—while experts warn that rising populations may drive up living costs. - ➤ Kenn Ricci and his wife Pamela endowed two faculty chairs at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach—one called the Ricci Family Chair and one the Flexjet Chair—to boost innovation in aviation, aerospace or space. - ➤ Beachside Baptist Church in New Smyrna Beach is asking for a rule change to build a 10,000-square-foot auditorium and add parking 10 feet from the road, a plan opposed by city staff and the planning board. City commissioners will vote today at 6:30 p.m.—local residents worry the expansion may worsen traffic and flooding. The Daytona Beach News-Journal

- ➤ British carmaker Aston Martin announced it will partner with Valor Real Estate Development to build an 18-floor beach condo complex at 3411 S. Atlantic Ave.—the project approved in 2024 will add 86 ultra-luxury units and penthouses—and will include a restaurant on a lot that has been vacant since 2005—once home to the Talisman Lodge—set for completion in 2029.
