COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia said a federal government shutdown will delay SNAP benefits and WIC supplies for families and is closely monitoring the impact. The center has set food pantry hours, mobile food drop dates, and donation options (including an Empty Bowls event on Nov. 6) to help those in need.  Hometown News
  • WNDB is hosting a Day of Giving Parking Lot Party at Southern Stone Communications parking lot on November 14th with live broadcasts, food trucks, prizes and station tours. Donations including money, new coats and blankets, non-perishable food and toys will support local services at the Center of Hope and Red Shield Youth Center — helping families and children in need.  WNDB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volusia County Schools and the Volusia United Educators Instructional union reached a tentative agreement on a new teacher contract that raises base salaries to $50,000 + offers cost-of-living adjustments, retention incentives, and two days of paid bereavement leave. The contract now awaits ratification from union members with details for voting and payment to be announced soon.  FOX 35 Orlando

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County is holding public meetings this week to discuss how to protect the coast after hurricanes Ian and Nicole caused severe beach sand loss. The final meeting is held today at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—public feedback will help shape a long-term coastal plan.  News 6
