  • Nonprofits in Volusia-Flagler are asking residents to donate to food banks as SNAP benefits pause due to a federal shutdown—about 75,000 local residents will face hardship. Greg Higgerson from Second Harvest Food Bank said donations and support from local officials are needed to help fill the gap.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • Volusia County has seen a rush of new coffee shops with 14 opening this year and 5 more set to debut, sparking a race with other business sectors. Daytona Beach welcomed new spots such as Dutch Bros, 7Brews and Starbucks while other cities plan fresh openings—this surge shows growing local business competition.  Hometown News
  • Construction Partners Inc. of Dothan, Ala., acquired Daytona Beach-based P&S Paving including its two hot-mix asphalt plants—Curtis Long will continue leading the team as the move expands CPI's presence along the I-95 corridor and boosts its asphalt services.   • AURA AERO cut the ribbon on its new 11,000 square-foot facility at Embry-Riddle’s Research Park in Daytona Beach today to serve as its U.S. headquarters and first production site. The company will begin producing its INTEGRAL two-seater training aircraft and later expand to manufacture the ERA hybrid-electric regional aircraft—an effort expected to create over 1,000 high-skilled jobs in the region.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

  • On Oct 30, 2025, Dr. Josh Wadler flew on a NOAA Hurricane Hunter plane into Hurricane Melissa and encountered turbulence reaching 3.8 times the force of gravity—forcing the crew to exit the storm. The research flight dropped drones to collect data as the powerful Category 5 hurricane had caused over 30 deaths in the Caribbean.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

  • A 27-year-old patient visited her primary doctor with dangerously high blood pressure and a small adrenal tumor and was referred to AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach’s Interventional Radiology Clinic. The clinic used Adrenal Vein Sampling to pinpoint excess hormone production, which helped determine the need for targeted surgery and expanded advanced care options for Volusia County residents.  Hometown News

  • Renovations at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach are on track for Opening Day 2026 and will host the Wildcats during their season opener on Feb. 13th, 2026.
