- ➤ Katie Williams opened a food pantry in her front yard on Queen Palm Drive in Edgewater to help neighbors who lost food help after a government shutdown halted SNAP benefits, and she stocked her shelves with items from Aldi. Local residents quickly donated tubs, tables & other supplies to support those in need. WESH
- ➤ Daytona Beach shopping centers are getting ready for the holiday season as Tanger Outlets and Volusia Mall display festive decorations. Tanger Outlets will host a free tree lighting celebration on Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and a new Trader Joe's will open at Tomoka Town Center on Friday at 9 a.m. after a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m. The Daytona Beach News-Journal

- ➤ Embry-Riddle student Logan Schierholz spent nine weeks this summer at the Big Bear Solar Observatory studying solar flares with a statistical model under mentor Dr. Vasyl Yurchyshyn + he later presented his research at an NJIT symposium and now applies his skills on ionospheric projects at Daytona while preparing for his master’s degree. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ After two nights of record low temperatures, at least 100 manatees were seen at Blue Spring State Park in Orange City on November 12. Park officials said the surge will be short-lived as temperatures warm to the low to mid-70s & the water becomes too warm for the manatees to stay. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
- ➤ Residents in Flagler and Volusia counties saw a rare display of the northern lights this week due to a powerful geomagnetic storm—photos capture bright pinks and greens lighting the sky. Meteorologists warned the storm may disrupt GPS and satellites and said the aurora could be visible again today early in the morning away from city lights. WNDB

- ➤ Daytona Beach residents, business owners and community stakeholders will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Peabody Auditorium — to review design renderings by Catalyst Design Group for updating Main Street’s sidewalks, lighting and landscaping between the Halifax River and Atlantic Ocean. The designers will refine the plans based on feedback before they present an updated proposal to city commissioners. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
