  • Leon Geller and Chef Antonio Mazzella will open Via Canaletto II in South Daytona in February or March at 1871 S. Ridgewood Ave—offering tapas, European-style dishes, and craft pizza in a casual industrial space.  Hometown News
  • Don Giovanni Contemporary Italian and Pizzeria in Port Orange at Suite 5, 1633 Taylor Road will reopen on Monday, Nov.24 with a completely revamped interior that nearly doubles its space and adds a full liquor bar. Owners Giovanni Spinosa and his wife Shana increased seating from 70 to 150 to better serve larger groups — a change reflecting their commitment to enhanced service.  Hometown News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volusia County Public Library branches are adjusting their November hours with all branches closing at 5 p.m. on Nov 26 and remaining closed Nov 27 and 28—while libraries like Daytona Beach Regional host events such as stargazing today and other scheduled programs ranging from creative crafts to writer’s workshops.   • Daytona State College’s FalconSec team captured second place in the Florida College System Cybersecurity Competition, marking their third straight podium finish. The four-member team—led by team captain Brian McGrath and coached by Professor Timothy Pintello—demonstrated strong cybersecurity skills in the statewide contest.  Hometown News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County has begun the South Berm Construction Project in New Smyrna Beach to rebuild dunes along 5.5 miles of coastline — funded by a Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant after Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. The county contractor has mobilized equipment at Rattlesnake Island Dredge Material Management Area and will continue work into mid-March while enforcing temporary beach closures.  Hometown News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Volusia Health Notes lists many free health events this week that give locals useful ways to get support and care. The news shows a Senior Expo on Nov. 23 at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach, a Diabetes Expo today in Daytona Beach at The Mori Hosseini Center, several support groups, and three AdventHealth hospitals that earned top safety grades from The Leapfrog Group — key updates for residents — with extra programs at the local library and Halifax Health.  Hometown News
  • Halifax Humane Society acquired the former Latitude Margaritaville sales office at 2400 LPGA Blvd. via a donor’s purchase. After a $2M redesign and remodel, the group will open its first veterinary hospital in late 2026 to offer affordable pet care—addressing rising owner surrenders.  Hometown News
  • The Ormond Beach Planning Board recommended approval for the AdventHealth Off-site Emergency Department on Nov. 11 after reviewing plans for a 13,451-square-foot facility on a 2.47-acre brownfield site near I-95 and U.S. 1 to help shorten emergency response times. The one-story ER—featuring 12 beds and a heli-pad—is now set to move to final review by the City Commission.  Hometown News
