- ➤ Dozens attended the 26th annual Kwanzaa celebration at Winter Park Community Center, where African heritage was honored, and the Equity Council will hold Imani day at Sun Splash Park in Daytona Beach on New Year's Day at 9 a.m. to release gifts for ancestors *with vendors and music*. News 6
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Volusia County Schools named five finalists for the 2027 Teacher of the Year award, with the winner to be announced at a dinner on Jan. 10. Finalists come from schools across the county, including Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Public access has been restored to the North Jetty in Ponce Inlet with temporary wooden stairs, county officials said, while a full rebuild is planned for spring. The county is working with the Army Corps of Engineers to extend a concrete deck west toward nearby pavilions to improve storm resilience. WNDB
