- ➤ On Monday, a small airplane carrying an advertisement banner crashed into water in Ponce Inlet during the early afternoon—no one was injured as the U.S. Coast Guard—Volusia County Beach Patrol—and Ponce Inlet Fire Rescue arrived to help. WNDB

- ➤ One man died last week in an Ormond Beach car crash that police say may have been caused by speeding and alcohol—officers responded at 9 p.m. on August 8 at the intersection of East Granada Boulevard and Vining Court, with both drivers taken to the hospital. FOX 35 Orlando
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce announced on Monday that Don Burnette has been appointed as its new President and CEO and he will assume the role on August 25th + his predecessor Barbara Ann Heegan resigned at the end of July to care for a relative. Burnette served as Port Orange’s mayor from 2016 to 2024 and works as a mortgage professional, and he is expected to lead the organization with a strong record of fiscal responsibility and community service.
